Inspired by a true story in 2005, Zachary is confused when students won’t let his friend Jacob play ball because his skin color is different than theirs. He leads the class on an imaginary trip to explore the sights, sounds, colors, and flavors of Diverse City.

The children enjoy a variety of savory meals at Spice of Life Café, and then they share in different ways of creating with an array of colors and textures at The Art Spot.  They hear an inviting sound, which leads them into Diverse City streets to enjoy different styles and moods of music and talk about the value of working together.  When the students return from their perspective changing trip, the room is much more colorful and the children are free to appreciate their differences and enjoy playing together.

This rhyming picture book encourages children to accept one another and welcome their differences. A portion of the proceeds goes to support unity initiatives.
